LUXURY HANDMADE PAPER LAMPSHADES
Welcome to B R Y T E by Bryony-handmade paper lampshades adding texture, pattern & personality to any interior.
Marbling involves floating ink or paint on a surface to create interesting patterns which are then transferred onto paper. Bryony enjoys working with both digitally printed and hand marbled paper made by local artisans to craft beautifully patterned lampshades. Bryony is looking forward to introducing her own hand marbled paper designs to the website soon!
Cyanotype is the original sun-printing process, one of the earliest photographic techniques. Bryony uses botanical references and unexpected objects to create beautiful blue cyanotype prints, which are then transformed into unique lampshades.
If you are seeking a custom colourway, shape, or size, Bryony can collaborate with you to create something unique!

This ready-made lampshade is part of a selection of one-off cyanotype hand printed designs made by Bryony. No cyanotype design will ever be the same making each very special. Bryony choose to use a ribbon tied in a bow for this particular design. When lit, the bow will glow beautifully.
Hand finished with a navy cotton trim.

Cyanotype is the original sun-printing process, one of the earliest photographic techniques. Discovered in 1843 & distinctive for producing rich, Prussian blue monochromatic prints; it is most famously used to make impressions of biological specimens.
A surface is coated with a chemical solution before objects like plants and flowers are placed on the surface to block the light. The prepared surface is then exposed to sunlight. During this process the chemicals oxidise and once complete, the paper is washed in cold water which fixes the image and produces the beautiful blue and white printed imagery left behind.
Not all prints are successful due to many factors like light exposure, timing and movement, but this makes the process so interesting and exciting! All the cyanotype images created are one offs, no two can ever be the same.
Although I often use flowers and plants for cyanotype printing I have enjoyed experimenting with ribbons, lace, sequins and other everyday objects to create interesting unique prints that can be used to create my lampshade designs.
CYANOTYPE
Marbling consists of floating ink or paint on a surface to create interesting patterns. A sheet of treated paper is then carefully placed on top of the paint and the pattern transfers to the paper.
B R Y T E use beautiful hand marbled artisan papers to make one off lampshade designs often featuring a pretty scalloped edge. Each sheet of marbled paper is completely unique, no two pieces are the same.
Some of Bryony’s lampshades are made using high quality digitally printed marbled paper and others made using original one off pieces of hand marbled paper. This will be reflected in the price of the lampshade and will be clearly stated when purchasing a marbled design.
